Conscious construction for humans & nature.
Aesthetically driven construction
Sunrise Homestead is the creative practice of artist and builder Nick Maimone. Nick is a designer, general contractor, and carpenter concerned with the confluence of design, art, and construction. Maimone received a BFA in Sculpture in 2011 from the former Philadelphia College of Art. He has a long history of working as an installer, fabricator, and carpenter in museums and private collections in the world of fine art. A move from San Francisco to Occidental, California in 2016 shifted his focus to residential construction and design.
Maimone began Sunrise Homestead, an aesthetically-driven construction company, out of a reverence for the artistic history and niche legacy of craftsmanship in Northern California. The construction outfit also takes inspiration from the wild and often unkempt natural environment of coastal California. Creating a union of history, place, art, and craftsmanship, he believes in the possibilities of art and design as a means to heighten the experience of the residential space.

We do not build to consume. We build to express our true nature. In a world obsessed with speed and spectacle, we choose slowness. We choose form. We choose care. We believe beauty is not a luxury. It is essential. It is resistance. We are not here to chase scale or squeeze margins. We are here to make things well. To shape homes and spaces that hold meaning, built by hands and hearts that know the weight of their work. Hands that listen. Hands that remember. Our practice is born from art, from concept, from material, from stillness. It is refined by the tradition of shokunin-the way of the maker, where every joint is a gesture of respect, and every surface holds spirit. We reject the culture of disposable building. We refuse the aesthetics of convenience. We design what needs to exist. Nothing more. What we build is meant to last through storms, through decades, through changing eyes. This is not business as usual. This is a practice. A devotion. A quiet revolution. A return to attention. Because the world we want to live in is made one intention at a time, with integrity, patience, and reverence for all that holds us. Let others rush. We’ll keep our heads down, doing the work, until the work becomes the way.

Sunrise Homestead is a licensed General B contractor and PHI Certified Passive House Tradesperson based in the coastal hills of West Sonoma County, California.
From foundation and framing to custom millwork and finish carpentry and with a commitment to low impact, sustainable building, we tackle anything from new construction of ADU’s, barns, and outbuildings to gut interior and exterior remodels.
We build slowly, intentionally, with careful hands and clear purpose.
It’s not about doing more-it’s about doing just enough. With care. With integrity. With respect for the form and the formless.
It is our mission to create beautiful, durable, healthy, and energy efficient structures using quality materials and methods at the hands of local, skilled tradespeople.
